5. I’ve been known to pronounce “puree” phonetically. In public.
Meaning hard “e” instead of hard “a.” I can’t help it. I’ve been doing this wrong for so long, it’s now hardwired into my brain and nothing short of shock therapy is going to stop it. Actually, I do the verb form correctly most of the time, as in “now that we’ve removed the seeds, we can ‘pyur-AY’ the tomatoes.” It’s the noun form that confounds me every time. As in “I can still see seeds. Please don’t make me eat that disgusting tomato pyur-EEEEEEEEE.”
Curse the French and their fancy word for soupy ground up stuff.
