Over dinner last night, I was updating everyone on the status of my most recently inoculated shiitake logs when I got some unexpected reactions.
Me: So I was outside waxing my log...
Husband: Please don't say "waxing my log" ever again.
Me: Why? What do you mean?
Him: (sigh)
Me: So I was outside waxing my log and I had all this extra melted wax I wanted to save but didn't know how. So I dug a little well in the ground, then I put it in the hole until it hardened.
(TeenNiece laughs hysterically, falls out of chair. Husband begins slow- clapping.)
Usually, I just get blank stares or eye-rolling when I talk about my mushrooms. I'm so glad my family is finally taking an interest in my work!!

That. is. hilarious! HA!

Too funny! Oh, the things we say ... kinda like me sitting in a sports bar with my husband, daughter and 'the new boyfriend' chatting over brunch and watching a Red Sox game on the big screen. As Pedroia came to back I piped up, "Oh here comes the little man with the big stick'. My daughter cringed, my husband kicked me under the table, and 'the new boyfriend' had a jaw drop moment...
