Here’s what the 4YO and I discussed over our egg salad today:
Him: Mommy, are you a grown-up?
Me: That’s a good question!!
Him: … (still waiting for the answer)
Me: Yes, I’m a grown-up.
Him: … (pondering this)
Me: Did you think I was a child?
Him: No. I thought you were a teenager.
Hmmmmm. I’m either very insulted or totally psyched!

A friend was describing her son's dietary quirks. It seems he will only eat things plain -- spaghetti is a good example. No sauce, no butter. When she told me this I said to her "He doesn't like Food on his Food!" and she said that's exactly it! Thank you for putting words to it.

Your son is clearly destined for the Diplomatic Corps. Whereas, of course, I am not, for even implying that you could not pass for a teenager .... Sarah

I am curious what distinguishes a person as a grown up in his mind.

I'd be totally psyched! They are young but have good instincts.
