Leftover potato omelet and collard greens (vegetables from Drumlin Farm, Lincoln, MA)
Kids had PB sandwiches, raspberries (Bart’s Farm, Leominster, MA), and havarti cheese (Smith’s Farmstead, Winchendon, MA)
Homemade pizza (flour from Wood Prairie Farm, Bridgewater, ME; cheese from Gigi’s Mozzarella House, Everett, MA; tomatoes from Drumlin Farm, Lincoln, MA; basil from Land’s Sake Farm, Weston, MA)
Salad (Drumlin Farm, Lincoln, MA; red wine vinegar from Chicama Vineyards, Martha’s Vineyard, MA)
Beer (Octoberfest, Wachusett Brewing Company, Westminster, MA)
Ice cream (Lizzy’s, Waltham, MA)
Pizza, beer, and ice cream on a Saturday night. What could be better?
Try subtracting my pizza from the equation, for starters. Yeah, it was pretty disappointing. The crust was too bready, among other things. Must be the decade or so that has elapsed since the last time I made one. Did you know that you can pay people to make you a pizza and then bring it to your house? I’m serious. I hear it could catch on.
We left the ice cream-making to the professionals, though. In this case, Lizzy’s in Waltham. It was dark chocolate ice cream with hunks of English Toffee, but I just bought it for the name: Charles River Crunch. As anyone who has ever gotten a mouthful of Charles River water knows, there’s bound to be something dark and crunchy in there. Glad the river is finally getting the recognition it deserves. (BTW, it was yummy!)
