Notes: I’m getting a head cold and, as usual, the little trolls inside my sinus cavities have decided that my sense of smell/taste will be the first thing to go. The only way to tell if what I’ve cooked is even remotely good is to blow my nose after every mouthful, which is very annoying not to mention gross. Could my two-week hiatus from orange juice be to blame? Anyone know the symptoms of scurvy? Meanwhile, the barely-touched bottle of multi-vitamins in plain sight taunts me.

Hey - do you get the New Yorker? In the recent food issue, Adam Gopnick goes on a quest to eat local, but only local from NYC. It's amusing and interesting - let me know if you don't have it and I'll save it for you. Sorry about the cold.

Hey, I have an idea: DO pass your cold around to the rest of the family, then they won't complain about egg salad and such! They'll eat anything! Sorry, I couldn't resist, and I hope you're feeling better soon. Maybe a big pot of local chicken soup is in order?

Karen: Chicken soup is a great idea. I have my local chicken bones at the ready, and about 20 lbs. of unused farmshare carrots in the freezer.
Susanna: Could you save it for me? My subscription has lapsed.
