A Russian, a German, a Filipino, a Latvian, and a couple of mongrel Americans walk into a room. They come bearing food. Food and conversation about the best pork on earth (Tamworth, apparently) and how to find it locally (not easily). Which fish has the most interesting parasites (try butterfish). And unfortunate incidents with chickens.
There’s no punch line to this joke. In fact, it’s not a joke at all. It was simply the happy intersection of several area food bloggers in Cambridge over the weekend. Kathleen of New England Grown hosted a potluck dinner in her bohemian digs, where the guests nibbled and tippled and prayed their dish wouldn’t be the one to suck the worst.
These were serious food people. People who order a whole cow from a farm and then divvy it up, bones and all, amongst friends. People who fast periodically to better understand their relationship to food. People who wouldn’t think twice about killing you with chocolaty goodness or the best rhubarb dish you’ve ever had. No wonder we never got around to changing light bulbs.
